Hello,
I was wondering if women are welcomed in this climbing group? Or, is it only for men? I'm asking this because I have noticed that in many pictures-there seems to be mostly men. Don't get me wrong, or get the wrong impression-I don't have a problem to climb with men or meeting some new male friends-I just am curious about this question.
Thanks.
-Monica.

Monca,

Women members are mostly welcome. Many times in the history of CCC, efforts were made to recruit women members without much results. The reason, I suspect, may be two folded.

Men were probably more excited about meeting new male climbers, since most all the male climbers I have met through CCC were single. Well, I started this group because I wanted to meet other gay male climbers after I saw many straight climbers dating through this sport. This original motivation may have had some influence on the culture of this group, or not. -- other members can tell me. Women were also probably more interested in climbing with new female climbers. On the otherhand, female climbers may have stopped coming simply they were disappointed with climbing with only male climbers.

One of my long time climbing partner is a straight woman. We became friends and did hiking and winter camping trips together, as we both enjoyed such experience. I trust that I am capable of enjoying climbing with a non-straight woman. :)

Anthony and I will climb at Rock Oasis on the evening of Jan. 3rd. Hope you can join us. BTW, it will be a platonic climbing relationship between all of us.

There is no denying that many single people, straight or gay, hope to meet their match through their favourite sport. Some have succeeded. Some have found their match through other venues. We can build an LGBT climbing community (or league) here to maximize our chances with other climbers.

However, if the only reason to climb with other LGBT climbers is to find a potential match, it won't help be helpful on personal and community levels.

For myself, I feel the most reward I have received through CCC is having met some very descent individuals and developed some friendships.

Definitely not just for men! :)

Monica:

Crag Crux Climbers is open to all --- men, women, gay, straight, somewhere in-between, trans, etc., as long as they're LGBTTIQQ2SA-friendly. We're an inclusive group. You're right in that most of the photos are of men. We'd love to change that! So by all means, please get involved. I was trying to organise a beginners' night about a month ago, and unfortunately couldn't quite make it happen. But I think we should in early January and everyone get together and climb! Who's up for it?

Shawn
