Operating Committee First Meeting
Posted May 6th, 2009 by shawn
We had the first meeting of our now official Operating Committee last night, and covered off quite a few bits of business. I won't cover off all of it here, as once the Committee has reviewed the minutes of that meeting, we'll be posting them on the site for members to view. There were a couple of items I wanted to highlight nonetheless before the minutes are posted.
- How the Operating Committee Will Function: The Committee strongly supports openness and transparency in its operations. Thus, it will post a notice of all its meetings in the events calendar, and any member can attend these "with voice but not vote". Minutes from all Operating Committee meetings will also be posted on this site for view by members.
- Portfolio Changes: Roger has been quite keen on the climbing and trips aspect of our objectives for 2009, and so in order to better leverage this, Xiaoping has agreed to relinquish the role of Trips Co-ordinator to Roger, who will also fill the role of Climbing Co-ordinator. Xiaoping has agreed to step into the role of Vice Chair. Ian remains Treasurer. We still have open positions for Secretary, Social Co-ordinator, and Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator, so if anyone is interested in helping, please do let me know.
- Incorporation, Insurance, and Funding: We are proceeding with incorporating Crag Crux Climbers as a not-for-profit corporation in the Province of Ontario. We expect the application to be completed and filed with the Ministry of Government Services this week. The turn-around will hopefully be quick enough that we will have our Letters Patent in time for our application to the Trillium Foundation for funding. And, we need this status to do other mundane things like take out liability insurance for the club, and open a bank account.
- May Club Climbing Night: More of a reminder than anything else, but we're definitely looking forward to this, as we will have some members from the Downtown Swim Club (DSC) joining us that evening. AND, Crag Crux Climbers members who show a membership card will get $2 off the price of admission. "What membership card?" you may be asking? Well, if you completed your full name in your profile, then we'll have a card for you that night! We'll definitely be doing a social afterwards, so please book off the evening so we have a good presence afterwards and are able to show DSC how climbers do things.
- Growing the Club: We also had some discussions around growing the club, and some very good ideas came out of that. We'll be exploring some of these in greater detail in future Operating Committee meetings.
So there you have it!
I'm excited to be working with such a great group, and am looking forward to some pretty awesome club activities this summer, as well as seeing Crag Crux Climbers becoming one of the leading LGBT sporting organisations in the GTA!
