I hope everyone is having a great summer! I've been very tardy in updating the membership on what has been going on with the Operating Committee and the Club. So, I'll try and do that succinctly here.

On the one hand, we've had some very successful club climbing events, with a great joint-event with Downtown Swim Club in May, and another great joint-event with the Alpine Club of Canada Toronto Section in July outside at Rattlesnake Point. That helped us achieve one portion of one of our objectives which was to organise an outdoors climbing event this year in the Milton area. We had a quieter June club climbing night at Rock Oasis, and our August one is coming up on the 21st at Toronto Climbing Academy. We've gained a number of new members to the website along the way, and have been found by folks as far away as Australia!

On the other hand, things have moved very slowly in terms of organisation and the operating committee. Ian Greenwood resigned from the treasurer position unfortunately, shrinking our committee to three. And the three of us have had busy lives over the summer that has prevented us from effectively meeting and moving forward. I now do not anticipate that we will achieve some of our objectives, such as incorporating as a not-for-profit amateur athletic association. Nor do I anticipate we will apply for any funding. I am also now not sure that these are the wisest courses of action given the commitment required on the part of an organisation to fulfill the requirements of such pursuits.

After speaking with Xiaoping today, we both felt it would be prudent to meet as an Operating Committee in September (hopefully... it's still summer and good out-door weather, after all...), and reassess the viability of our objectives and the Club as a whole. I'll post the date of that meeting if anyone else would like to attend, and you'd certainly be welcome to do so. Of course, if anyone has any views on the topic, I'd really like to hear them. Feel free to contact me directly, or post a comment to this post, in which case everyone can read it and participate in a virtual discussion.

I hope to be able to update everyone in one to two months on any progress. In the mean time, enjoy the summer, and get out and climb!
