What's been going on?

So have you been wondering what the Crag Crux Climbers Working Group has been doing over the last little while? Well, it has continued to meet and plan during this ratification period, with the assumption of course that the current club membership will ratify the Working Group’s recommendations.
Part of our vision is to strengthen connections between ourselves and other LGBT sporting groups in the GTA. By chance, we had the opportunity to speak with Downtown Swim Club, which we did, and have invited them to our May Club Climbing and Beginners’ Night. We hope that this will both provide some new members to Crag Crux Climbers, as well as provide our existing members the opportunity to learn a bit more about Downtown Swim Club.
The Working Group has also been focusing on funding in order to provide financial resources to support our mission and vision. One thing that has become clear in our investigations is that the club needs to be a specific type of legal entity in order for us to qualify for some funding, such as that which the Ontario Trillium Foundation provides. That specific type of entity is a not-for-profit corporation. As a result, we’ve spent some time determining what is involved in incorporating Crag Crux Climbers, and will be pursing that post-ratification-close.
We’ll apply to be an Ontario not-for-profit corporation, and shortly after receiving our letters patent from the provincial government, we’ll publish a draft set of bylaws for review by the membership, along with some explanation as to why certain things would be enacted in the bylaws. Much of what would be there would be prescribed by the Ontario Corporations Act, and in some areas we’d have leeway to decide how we’d wish to run the corporation. So stay tuned for more on that.
We’ve also received some financial support from our very first sponsor. I’d like to personally thank Roger for pursuing and Trek Bicycle Store for a donation so that our incorporation costs will be covered.
Finally, we’ve continued our recruitment drive for members of both the club and the Operating Committee. We still have some open positions, so if you’re interested in filling any of them, please speak to anyone in the Working Group.
