I know for the longest time I've always been confused as to what's what when it comes to "how did I do it" lingo... did I just flash that climb, or did I red point it, or did I clean it, or did I just climb it? Well, the following list of definitions might help...
Brown Point
To complete a lead climb in the worst way possible; the antithesis of 'Red Point'.
Clean
To complete a climb without falling or resting on the rope.
Flash / Beta Flash
Ascent of a climb on the first attempt with some knowledge (beta) of that climb, with no falls or hangdogging.
Hangdog
While lead climbing or on top rope, to hang on the rope or a piece of protection for a rest.
On-sight
A clean ascent, with no prior practice or beta.
Pink Point
To complete a lead climb without falling or resting on the rope (hangdogging), but with pre-placed protection and carabiners.
Red Point
To complete a lead climb without falling or resting on the rope (hangdogging).
'scend
(contraction of the word ascend, past tense: 'scended.) To cleanly complete a route. ie on-sight, flash, redpoint. Sometimes even on trad lead.
add "pink point" too
r.
Just added it. :-)
